JOE DELANEY ARCHITECTURE
WHO IS JOE DELANEY?
Joe Delaney is a hardworking, southern gentleman who, after being inspired by his architect uncle growing up, decided to become an architect himself. Our project is to rename his company in response to his morals, interests, and business goals!
THE ESSENCE OF JOE DELANEY
I believe that understanding Joe, his hobbies and values is an important part of being able to brand his company. Here are some photos that I believe describe Joe Delaney
PROJECT STEPS
STEP 1
Joe Delaney decided he didn't want to be just any other architect on a list. What does that mean? We need a new company name.
After our professor met with Joe Delaney, he gave us a list of four adjectives describing Joe's "Tone of Voice". They were:
1. Listener 2. Honest 3. Dependable 4. Fair
From there, our class collaboratively created a list of synonyms for each word and narrowed it down to our top choices.
STEP 2
We then independently brainstormed and developed these words into potential brand names. This happened two ways:
1. By creating a spiderweb and
2. By combining two words and merging them into one
These brainstorming tactics allow you to use your imagination to expand beyond simple adjectives and phrases and to create something unique
to your client and their aspirations.
STEP 3
The next time we met as a group we shared our brainstorming results.
After comparing each idea, we decided on a name for the company. Using the second tactic listed in Step 2 above, we chose a combination of the words Honest and Balance, Ballast.
Both words represent Joe's ideals and morals. Our next step is to now design a visual logo using the word Ballast.
Joe decided he didn't want to use the word Architecture in his brand name, so I came up with the words Concepts, Design, and Strategies to represent Joe's creative and unique approach towards architecture.
STEP 4
After hand drawing the designs above, I then transferred them to Adobe Illustrator. We then all shared our designs in class.
In a meeting with Joe, he mentioned that he imagines his company in Orange and Grey. I chose to design my logos in color to best represent his vision for the business.
STEP 5
The next and final step was completing our designs, mounting them, and pitching them to Joe Delaney.
I wanted my designs to represent the clean lines and angles found in Joe's work both on and off our campus. Keeping in mind that Joe is looking to develop his business, I wanted the design to be able to follow him through a multi faceted company. The designs, while alluding to a building, gives the consumer the idea of what Joe does while still allowing them to use their imagination to see what they are looking for.
To help Joe understand what my design would look like in real life, I decided to put my finalized ideas on hats and t shirts as well as on different colored backgrounds within the color scheme.
I also designed several logos that could be used for social media icons and included them in my presentation.
